Tiova Inhaler

Common use

Tiova Inhaler is primarily used for the long-term management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. It falls under the category of medicines known as long-acting anticholinergic bronchodilators. Apart from COPD and asthma, this medicine is also recommended for the maintenance treatment of bronchospasm associated with chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It is particularly effective in managing persistent airflow obstruction in COPD patients. Additionally, it can be used in combination with other medicines for the maintenance treatment of asthma in patients aged 6 years and above.

Dosage and direction

Prime the inhaler before the first use, as per the instructions provided. Administer two inhalations once daily. For adequate dosage, consult your doctor. Clean the inhaler on a regular basis to ensure optimal medicine delivery.

Precautions

Narrow-angle glaucoma: Tiova Inhaler could potentially induce or worsen symptoms of this eye condition.
Prostatic hyperplasia or bladder-neck obstruction: In patients suffering from this condition, Tiova Inhaler may cause urinary retention.
Severe renal impairment: People with severe renal impairment should use Tiova Inhaler cautiously as it might worsen their condition.
Caution is advised while using Tiova Inhaler if you are pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding. It's important to discuss the use of Tiova Inhaler with your doctor to understand any potential risks and benefits.

Contraindications

Tiova Inhaler is contraindicated in individuals who are allergic to tiotropium or any of its ingredients. It should also be avoided by patients with a known hypersensitivity to atropine.
Tiova Inhaler is not recommended for use in children under 6 years of age. Always consult your doctor before giving any medicine to a child.

Possible side effect

When using Tiova Inhaler, you may experience the following common side effects: Dry mouth; Cough; Sore throat; Sinusitis; Headache; Constipation; Dizziness; Glaucoma or blurred vision; Paradoxical bronchospasm: This is when your airways suddenly narrow instead of opening up, causing breathing difficulties; Urinary retention: This is when you cannot fully empty your bladder.

Drug interaction

Anticholinergic medications: Combining Tiova Inhaler with other anticholinergic medications like ipratropium can intensify the anticholinergic effects, leading to potential side effects such as dry mouth and urinary retention.
Beta-2 agonists: Medicines like albuterol, when used with Tiova Inhaler, may enhance bronchodilatory effects.
Methylxanthines: Consuming Tiova Inhaler alongside medicines like theophylline might lead to an increased risk of side effects, including nausea and irregular heartbeat.

Missed dose

In case you forget to administer Tiova Inhaler at the scheduled time, do so as soon as you remember. However, if it's nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Never take extra doses without consulting your doctor.

Overdose

If you accidentally administer more than the prescribed dose of Tiova Inhaler, you may experience dry mouth, cough, or dizziness. Should these or any other unusual symptoms occur, please inform your doctor.

Storage

Always store your Tiova Inhaler at room temperature, between 15°C to 25°C. Do not freeze. Please keep it away from direct sunlight and moisture. It's best to keep this inhaler out of reach of children. Be sure to use the inhaler before the expiry date mentioned on its packaging.
